BSKL students achieve outstanding results at UKBC’s Intermediate Biology Olympiad

BSKL once again demonstrated academic excellence with the recent results announcement from the Intermediate Biology Olympiad, which is run by the UK Royal Society of Biology.

Polina, Sasha and Shreya, all of whom are current Year 13 students, received top accolades for their participation in the Olympiad. Polina, especially, received a Silver, placing her in the top 15% of students worldwide, while Sasha and Shreya received a “Highly Commended” placing.

“It was a job well done by our students, as the competition is a challenging test of A-level Biology knowledge and understanding. We are very proud of your achievements,” said BSKL’s Biology Teacher Dr Sophie Ainsworth.

“It is particularly impressive that students from Years 8 to 12 took on the challenge of competing against 16,000 students around the world,” she said recently.

The intermediate Biology Olympiad, held in June 2026, requires students to submit two papers in 70 minutes. Questions are set on topics that students are likely to have covered at their GCSE (or IGCSE in international schools) and in their first year of A-levels. Some additional ideas are introduced, requiring students to showcase their problem-solving skills and understanding of core principles.

The competition is designed to support the enrichment of biology education within schools and colleges.
