How BSKL Alumna Mischa turn her sketchbook creation into an art exhibition.

An animal that is part cow, part giraffe, and living in a black-and-white world, but that world is certainly not dull one. 

The wonderful, whimsical world of Mooraf, a creation from BSKL alumna Mischa's sketchbook, recently came to life at Awegallery, Petaling Jaya, where visitors are welcome to interact and immerse themselves to experience what Mooraf means to them.

It also centres on the relationship between Mischa and Mooraf. Mischaoften visits the gallery to walk visitors through her thought process behind creating Mooraf.

However, few would have known that Mischa originally concocted the idea of Mooraf during her time with BSKL, in which she was a student from Year 2 to Year 11.

Her original Mooraf creation and several other artworks are available for all students to see around the BSKL campus, and her talent for drawing and creating art was discovered early.

“I’m so proud of her for using her creative imagination and turning it into art curation,” said Secondary Learning Support teacher Mr Jason Keen.

Meanwhile, Head of Secondary Learning Support Ms Ciara Gardener-Meadows said the team has always known of her artistic prowess and using her creativity to pursue her dreams.

“We are so proud of her, and we miss her; she always has a special place here in BSKL,” she said recently.

Mischa herself has fond memories of being a part of BSKL.

“I remember going through a challenging time in secondary, and I remember feeling supported and safe in the learning support room with Ms Gardener, Mr Keen and (then Head of Learning Support) Mr Newenham. BSKL was extremely accommodating to me and my needs and treated me very kindly, and I don’t think I could have gotten that from another school,” she said recently.

She also said her pursuit in art was well supported by her teachers.

“Everyone would always encourage me to draw and made me feel more confident in my skills, although I wasn’t good at maths or sciences,” she said.

She added that BSKL has taught her to always be kind, resourceful and perseverant, certainly values that she has kept even to this day.

“I feel that during my time in BSKL, I learnt that being kind, making the most of the resources around you, and trying your best to persevere through difficult situations is important,” she said.

Those keen to visit her art gallery may do so as her exhibition is open from 11am till 8pm  from 17 till 27 September 2026at Awegallery, Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya.
