The British School of Tashkent is an international school with an international community of over 40 diverse nationalities. We want to celebrate this diversity through our International Week and Day.

We believe all our students, parents and staff have different experiences, views and lifestyles but come together through our shared values - so we are different but united. To celebrate this theme and to ensure our students can embrace the opportunities and challenges of global citizens, we request your assistance for our International Week and International Day from Monday 22nd to Saturday 27th February.

During the festivities all our classrooms will be decorated according to a specific country’s national decorations, souvenirs, posters, and flags. Each classroom will also have traditional games, videos, songs, dances, folk tales and martial arts displayed.

  • During the week students will perform activities in the classrooms and visit all the different “countries” in the school.
  • On Saturday 27th February, parents and students are both invited to the school for International Day - participating and enjoying the performances, food, clothing, sounds and smells of different nations.

We encourage all students on Friday the 26th and parents and visitors on Saturday 27th to attend in the national dress of the country they want to represent.

For “your country” we would like you to:

  1. Provide national items of your embassy/cultural centre for decorating our school classrooms. The attributes may include items such as flags, photographs, national textile, national dresses, dishes, food, musical instruments, books etc.
  2. Participate in a national performance of your choice together with your children on Saturday 27th February. Whether you would like to demonstrate Tai Chi in the China room, Kathak in the India room, Arabic Calligraphy in the Saudi Arabia room or Mime in the French room we would love you to participate.

Programme on 27th February

Children will be able to visit each room with their parents, partake in the activities, and collect stickers for their passports. Please note that parents are asked to supervise their children on the day. You are free to visit the countries in any order during the event. Staff will be on hand to help direct you to the various countries.

Performances 12:00-13:00

International Day Lunch 13:00-14:00

Our International Day “Food Court” will take place in the cafeteria and theatre by international restaurants. Join our Chef Krisztina to cook Goulash from 11:05 to 13:05. 50% of all payments for lunches will be donated to SOS Childrens Village, Tashkent and the remaining 50% will be kept by restaurants. If you own or know a restaurant that is willing to showcase and sell their food during the international day, please contact aziz.abdumukhtarov@britishschool.uz or shagufta.bibi@britishschool.uz. Please be aware that it is school policy that food served should not contain nuts (owing to allergies). If food you are contributing is halal, please indicate this on the outside of the container and we can label it appropriately.

Please note that this event is open for everyone. Photo ID (School badge, passport, driver's license) is required to enter school premises.
