Our Year 7 and 8 students recently embarked on an exciting residential trip to Kanchanaburi, where they challenged themselves through a series of outdoor adventures designed to build confidence, teamwork, and resilience.

Year 7 and 8 Residential Trip to Kanchanaburi - Developing Resilience Through Adventure
Throughout the trip, students participated in a range of hands-on experiences that encouraged them to develop new skills while stepping beyond their comfort zones. One of the most memorable highlights was a 32-kilometre paddleboarding journey, during which students navigated increasingly challenging waterways. Beginning on calm, open waters and progressing to faster-flowing streams with rocky terrain, students demonstrated determination, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace new challenges.
As they worked through changing conditions, students built their confidence on the water while developing communication, perseverance, and problem-solving skills. Their positive attitude and commitment to supporting one another reflected the strong sense of teamwork that characterised the entire trip.
Beyond the paddleboarding expedition, students also gained valuable outdoor survival skills. They learned how to safely cook using a gas stove, practise fire-lighting techniques, and develop basic navigation skills, all of which encouraged greater independence and self-reliance. These practical experiences provided opportunities for students to take responsibility, make informed decisions, and apply their learning in real-world situations.
Another standout activity challenged students to design and construct their own raft using just four barrels and six bamboo poles. Working collaboratively in teams, students planned, built, launched, and successfully paddled their rafts, demonstrating creativity, leadership, and effective communication. The activity highlighted the importance of collaboration and showed students how teamwork can transform ideas into achievement.
The residential trip was not only an opportunity for adventure but also an important stage in students’ personal development journey. The skills and experiences gained in Kanchanaburi provide a strong foundation for future outdoor education opportunities, including participation in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award programme in Years 10 and 11.
At Nord Anglia Education schools, we believe that some of the most impactful learning takes place beyond the classroom. Experiences such as the Kanchanaburi residential trip encourage students to develop confidence, resilience, and a growth mindset while creating lasting memories with their peers.
We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, courage, and determination demonstrated by every student throughout the week. Their willingness to embrace challenges, learn new skills, and support one another exemplifies the values of our school community.
Congratulations to our Year 7 and 8 students on a successful residential experience. Through adventure, teamwork, and perseverance, they have developed skills that will support them both in school and beyond.
