What’s buzzing in Nyon? Observing bees in our Forest School

Observing bees

Several months ago, we installed an educational beehive in our Forest School on our primary school campus in Nyon. Thanks to transparent windows and opening shutters, our young learners have been busy observing our bees in their natural habitat!

The installation of the beehive and our partnership with non-profit association Printemps d'abeilles form part of our commitment to the environment here at Champittet. We believe in instilling values of social responsibility in our students, and that includes caring about sustainability and environmental protection.

While our educational beehive lets kids safely observe the lifecycle of bees, we are also delighted to welcome experts who will further enrich our students’ learning. Mr Cédric Périat, a beekeeper from Printemps d'abeilles, will soon be visiting our classes to raise awareness of the importance of protecting bees and their role as pollinators. These activities will help our students to better understand our ecosystem while learning more about these incredible yet sensitive insects.

Finally, an even sweeter project is on the horizon: the harvesting of honey! Using the appropriate tools and protective equipment, our students will discover first-hand how honey is made and harvested. We can’t wait to taste it for ourselves!
