The spring weather may have been a bit unpredictable lately, but that hasn’t stopped our students from making the most of our outdoor sporting events! At Collège Champittet, we believe that staying active is key to promoting good health and wellbeing. We’re glad to see our students of all ages giving their best effort in our sporting traditions – and having a great time while they’re at it!
This year, a grand total of 426 Collège Champittet students, family members and staff participated in the celebrated 20 KM de Lausanne race. With more than 33,000 runners, this popular event attracts athletes of all ages and levels. Our school community gave outstanding performance in all categories, from 2 km to 20 km, proudly reflecting our Champittet values.
The day was a superb example of our school spirit, as our librarian Gallia Chevalier noted: “At Collège Champittet, we love the way that sport has the unique power to bring people together, whatever their age, background or experience. We were all united by a team spirit – that invisible force that drives people to support each other, to surpass their own limits and to celebrate every victory. That shared effort gives rise to respect, trust and a deep sense of caring, all values that fully embody the spirit of sport.”
On May 13th, we celebrated our annual Sports Day at Collège Champittet with athletic events for our junior and senior students. Our junior students enjoyed competing in a wide range of sports activities on campus, while our senior students (in Grades 5 and up) spent the day at the Pierre-de-Coubertin Stadium in Lausanne.
Our young athletes gave it their all in sports such as shot put, 100 m sprints and 1 km races, long jump, beach volleyball, basketball, stand-up paddle, archery, football, orienteering, pétanque and ultimate frisbee. In the Pierre-de-Coubertin Stadium, our 525 senior students also enjoyed a lunch served by the College maintenance team – nourishment for the body and soul!
Finally, around 100 runners from Collège Champittet came out for the outdoor ADISR Cross-Country event in Chalet-à-Gobet, which included more than 400 students from 10 schools. Our students in Grades 12 and 13 showed their solidarity by cheering on and helping to guide our younger runners, while all our athletes demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to reaching the finish line. Congratulations to our students Zachary, who won first place in the older “Minimes” category, and Côme, who won second place in the younger “Benjamins” category, as well as Manon and Morganne for their outstanding performances!
A shared meal of burgers around the campfire capped off an excellent day of sport and camaraderie.
Collaboration often leads to innovation – and for three days in May, a group of our Champittet students had the opportunity to experience just that with 200 students from across Europe at the NAE STEAM festival in Prague!
