New Early Years Centre Inauguration and International Dot Day

Village Inauguration - Village Inauguration

On September 15th, we welcomed the parents of our students in preschool and Grades 1 and 2 for the official inauguration of The Village. Our newest building at Collège Champittet, The Village is home to our Early Years Centre and has been specially designed to nurture our youngest learners’ learning and development.

Our families joined us for a community breakfast and a ribbon-cutting ceremony at The Village, while children and parents alike got into the spirit of International Dot Day. Inspired by the children’s storybook The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, International Dot Day invites us to celebrate creativity, courage and collaboration.

International Dot Day: A story of creativity

The Dot tells the story of Vashti, a little girl who believes she is not at all good at art. When her teacher asks her to “make a mark and see where it takes you”, Vashti takes her first step by making a dot on her blank page. The teacher asks Vashti to sign her work, and Vashti later sees her artwork framed and on display in the classroom. This unlocks a journey of creative discovery, with Vashti following her own path of artistic exploration and even inspiring her peers to find the courage to express themselves.

At Collège Champittet, we celebrated International Dot Day by enjoying dot-themed treats at breakfast, dressing in dot-inspired outfits, and guiding our youngest learners in dot-themed creative activities. The day gave us an opportunity to reflect on the important lessons in The Dot and our own Learner Ambitions: nurturing creativity, building meaningful connections, and having the courage to begin new journeys. These qualities also tie into a sense of compassion, our theme for this school year.

Thank you to our students and families for joining us on this happy occasion. We look forward to seeing each of you make your own special mark!
