Many of our Champittet students embarked on new adventures both abroad and in Switzerland during our February break. From participating in community service in Tanzania, to discovering the culture of Japan, to hitting the slopes in Zermatt, our school trips introduced our young travellers to new landscapes and experiences.

Open to travellers aged 13 and up, our student expedition to Tanzania provided hands-on immersion in community service and nature. Humanitarian work was at the heart of this programme, reflecting Collège Champittet’s “Year of Compassion” theme.
Before departure, each student had to fundraise the equivalent of 300 US dollars, whether through bake sales, athletic races or crowdfunding campaigns. Upon arrival in Tanzania, our volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got to work at making a difference on the ground. Our group participated in multiple projects to improve conditions for young students and their families, brick by brick. One of the key priorities was to build new educational facilities for the girls’ dormitory Seeway Tanzania.
Based at the beautiful Shamba Kipara campgrounds along the Usa River, our students also had opportunities to witness Tanzania’s incredible natural environment and wildlife. We enjoyed a two-day safari at Tarangire National Park and visited a local coffee plantation to understand how Fair Trade coffee is produced and sold. Our expedition wrapped up with a moment of reflection on what our students learned and ways to take these lessons forward in their studies and careers.
Some of our boarding students joined us for an unforgettable trip to Japan that combined both nature and culture. In Tokyo, our young explorers experienced the buzz of urban life, learning about Japanese history and cultural traditions as well as gastronomy. Then, we swapped the skyscrapers of Tokyo for the snowy landscapes of Hokkaido, the northernmost of Japan’s four main islands. Visiting Sapporo and Niseko, our students discovered the unique nuances of the region’s culture. Our travellers also enjoyed some first-rate skiing under the supervision of professional guides – another quintessentially Japanese winter experience!

Another group of our boarding students set off for Alpine adventures in the Swiss mountain resort of Zermatt. Under the iconic Matterhorn peak, our young adventurers enjoyed crisp air, spectacular views and world-class skiing. Our boarders boosted their skiing technique and confidence at Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, a legendary destination for winter sports. With cosy winter nights in the Alpine village wrapping up each day, the trip provided our boarders with the perfect mix of high-altitude thrills and relaxation with friends.
