One in ten of the UK population is estimated to be dyslexic, meaning that in a classroom of 20, there would be two children with dyslexia. This means that every teacher has a dyslexic student, whether that student is six in Year 1 or 16 and pondering life after secondary school.
By supporting Dyslexia awareness, we are promoting a dyslexia friendly society and better understanding of this phenomenon. The British Dyslexia Association are campaigning for dyslexia awareness to be a compulsory part of teacher training. If this were to happen, teachers could identifiy and support students with dyslexia early on so that the right coping strategies can be put in place to make a difference in their lives.
The theme for 2015 is 'Making Sense of Dyslexia' and demonstrated how the right support and interventions can have a postitive effect on the future for people with dyslexia.
The entire school have participated in informative lessons, learning about famous dyslexics and the talents that can come with having this learning difference.
Students at Dover Court were invited to enter a competition to help people understand Dyslexia, in line with the British Dyslexia Association’s Dyslexia Awareness Week competition rules.
