DCIS Primary School Celebrates the Festival of Deepavali Our Primary School Celebrates the Festival of Deepavali

Over the last week we celebrated Deepavali with two great assemblies and a host of classroom activities.

We celebrated Deepavali with two assemblies hosted by our younger and older primary children. As well as telling the story of Rama and Sita, the children told the story of Deepavali through singing and dancing. They also shared with their audiences some of the traditions relating to the celebration.

To end the week off we had a dress up day, it was a delight to see so many children and adults dressed in traditional Indian dress enjoying a host of activities in the classrooms. In 1SH the children celebrated Deepavali by learning about Rangoli designs. Rangoli are colourful pictures drawn on the floor near the entrance to a house to welcome the goddess Laksmi. The children designed their own beautiful Rangoli and coloured it using chalks and in 2HB some of the children had their hands decorated with their beautiful henna designs. While in RFD the children were able to try some traditional Hindu food.

Happy Deepavali
