On Wednesday 27th June, a group of students from Years 3 to 6 had the remarkable opportunity to visit Nanyang Technological University’s self-driving vehicle centre.

The students were following up their learning from the MIT STEAM Challenge ‘Street Smarts’, which explored self-driving vehicles, including how they work and how they will change the future of transportation.

With excitement, the students arrived at Nanyang Technological University and were taken to a board room for an informative and interesting presentation from Project Manager, Alex Teck Yeow. They then posed some thoughtful questions for Alex to answer. After this, with excitement building, the students walked to the test area, which is one of the biggest of its kind in the world. They had a thrilling ride on one of the buses, which is likely to come into public use in Sentosa next year.  In addition to this, the students were excited to hear that the government intends to have self-driving buses on many roads in Singapore by 2022!

This was a unique and wonderful experience for our students to learn more about the future of transport in one of the most technically forward thinking countries in the world. We are very grateful to Dr. Shweta Agarwala, our Reception parent, for helping to organise this trip.
