Malala's Magic Pencil

Global Campus has just launched an initiative called 'One World One Book'. The challenge is for all students within the Nord Anglia family of schools to read the same book within a year. This year's Global Library read is Malala's Magic Pencil, by Nobel Peace Prize Winner Malala Yousafzai.

Global Campus has just launched an initiative called 'One World One Book'. The challenge is for all students within the Nord Anglia family of schools to read the same book within a year. This year's Global Library read is Malala's Magic Pencil, by Nobel Peace Prize Winner Malala Yousafzai.

'When Malala was a child in Pakistan, she wished for a magic pencil. She would use it to...
...draw a lock on her door to keep her brothers out.
...stop time so she could sleep an extra hour every morning.
...erase the smell of the rubbish dump near her home.

But as Malala grew, her world changed and so did her wishes. Her right to attend school was threatened - just because she was a girl. Instead of a magic pencil, Malala picked up a real one.' (Yousafzi, Malala (2017) Malala's Magic Pencil, London:Puffin Books)

During their library sessions our librarian Ms Sivanandan has read Malala's book to all children in Years 3-6. After reflecting on the message of the book in smaller groups, the children were invited to write a note about what they would do if they had a magic penicil.

If the DCIS students had a magic pencil, they would...
...make the world a better place.
...make the world a beautiful place to live properly and give the people food if they are poor and give the boys footballs.
...create beautiful swimming pools and condos.
...make everything free and say no weapons and no violence.

Please come by our library to have a look at our Malala wall!
