As part of their topic À Table - Food & Drink our Year 8 French students finished last term in the kitchen!

Year 8 French learners put their culinary skills to the test at the end of Term 1 in order to research and recreate a French national dish as part of their homework on the current topic ‘À table!’- ‘Food & Drink’. When studying any foreign language it is very important for students to learn about the cultural framework of that language including, for example, national dishes and what people like to eat in the country. Learning more about the culture of a language is a major and inseparable component of ‘knowing’ a language and one of the most enjoyable aspects of language learning!

As such, the students spent time researching some well-known French national dishes and then put their cooking skills to the test to see if they could master these recipes for themselves at home. On the list of famous dishes produced were: French crêpes, mousse au chocolat, Dauphinoise potatoes, beef Bourguignon, gâteau au chocolat amongst many others!

The students really enjoyed themselves getting involved in the homework! Many delights made were served up and shared with their families that evening to their parents’ delight.

It has been lovely seeing the students getting so involved in their homework and then producing a write-up mainly in the form of videos and presentations!
