Shravana in Year 13 has earned an unconditional offer and a merit-based scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston when she completes her IBDP later this year. We caught up with her to find out a little more about her journey to success.
Congratulations Sharavana! We are thrilled for you, tell us a little more about Berklee
Thank you! Attending Berklee has been my dream since I was 13 years old. The college offers its students so many opportunities, it is one of the most reputable colleges for contemporary music and it boasts some really well know alumnus, for example artists such as Charlie Puth went to Berklee.
What course will you be taking?
I will be completing a Music degree. I am still making final decisions on my Major and Minor, but I am currently thinking I will complete a Vocal Major and Musical Theatre Minor.
Can you tell us a little more about the application process?
I started the application process in August so that I would have enough time to complete everything, being in Year 13 means that there is quite a lot of schoolwork to complete as well! As part of the application I had to send in a musical composition, I also had to complete an application form and write a personal statement. I have had so many opportunities at Dover Court that I was able to include lots of different experiences into the statement. I was then invited for an interview and audition. The interview and the audition took place online, I did them at school as I felt comfortable there.
And you have both an Unconditional Offer and a Scholarship?
Yes, I am so happy! You can’t apply for a scholarship it is Merit based and awarded on the basis of your application.
My teachers have all been incredibly supportive but I would particularly like to thank my music teacher, Ms Jones, I couldn’t have done it without her, she has guided me through the application process and throughout my IB Music. I also feel that Dover Court has provided me with so many opportunities that it has really made me into the person I am today. I am so grateful to all the staff here.
Ms Jones writes “Shravana’s commitment to a future in music was evident from the start and she demonstrated this consistently through her perseverance, rigor and dogged approach to everything she did throughout the course. She took every possible opportunity to perform, despite the restrictions in place, and faced every challenge with a positive and determined approach. This scholarship is most-deserved and it has been a privilege to be part of the process.”
Best of luck for your IBDP Shravana, stay in touch and come back and see us when you are back in Singapore!
