Dear DCIS Families,

It has been a fantastic term with many highlights spanning academic excellence, well-being, and student agency. Thank you to our incredible students, all our staff, and all parents for supporting us. Throughout the term, students have been looked after by tutors, Progress Leaders, counsellors, and Ms Glazerman, and have been supported in navigating the teenage years. We thank them for their care and guidance.

Our Sixth Form is thriving, and our most senior learners are now one community together in their bespoke Sixth Form Centre, which opened this term. All Year 12 students completed the Inclusion Ambassador training, plus many impactful CAS projects this term, which not only enhance our mission as an inclusive school but also prepare them to be ‘future ready’. They will be future team leaders, and their ability to connect, collaborate, and show empathy will be significant and much-needed characteristics beyond DCIS.

We were delighted to receive more Outstanding Pearson Learner and Excellence Awards this term, and students and their families should be very proud of their achievements.

We have seen increasing numbers of students entering the UKMT Maths competitions. In the Junior Maths and Junior Olympiad challenge in August, six students qualified to participate, achieving two Merits and one Distinction. In the Senior Maths Challenge in October, out of 27 participants, nine achieved Gold, three Silver, and three Bronze awards, with one student qualifying for the British Maths Olympiad. These are truly excellent performances. In languages, 25 students participated in the DELF examinations this term, and 81 students have completed the YCT for Mandarin. We congratulate them for their effort and look forward to the results later this month.

There have been many curriculum enrichment opportunities this term and across all pathways – far too many to mention here. With so much to see, do, and learn in Singapore, we continue to fully engage with opportunities here, and of course, Nord Anglia Education’s collaboration with MIT gave two students the opportunity for a week of learning at MIT in Boston this term.

Early morning training for our DCIS Wolves teams and participation in ACSIS fixtures and the U15 FOBISIA Games demonstrates more than sheer grit; it also reflects our ranking alongside the very best teams in Singapore and the region. We achieve this standing because of the commitment of our coaches and students to give their very best.

This term, we hosted the Lion City Fair for the second time, featuring over 75 universities and further education options on campus. Students were rightly excited and keen to speak with as many representatives as possible. In addition, we hosted a talk on Medicine and Health Science by UK university admissions experts. Offers for the Class of 2026 have already begun to arrive.

Our Year 7 students ventured into the wilds for their residential this term, and the Silver Duke of Edinburgh adventurous journey students recently returned from their experience paddleboarding down the River Kwai in Thailand. This year, with more students and an additional opportunity to learn about WW2, it was an extra-special experience – and next year is already booked!

Battle of the Bands last week was fantastic and a testament to the talent and passion of the performers and the Music Team. We look forward to seeing many of the bands again when they perform at Timbre One North on Saturday, 10th January.

All of these opportunities (and there are many more) have only been possible because of our wonderful staff – our sincere thanks to them all. There are, of course, many things that cannot be captured here; they may not be seen, but they are certainly felt – the support, care, kindness, and commitment that is part of our DNA. Thank you to all our students, parents, and staff for your support and contributions to our community this term.

On behalf of the Secondary School Leadership Team, we wish you all a wonderful holiday and New Year!
