4th Annual Charlotte Mackender Netball Tournament

We were proud to hold the 4th Annual Charlotte Mackender Netball Tournament on campus, a meaningful event that continues to honour the life and legacy of Charlotte Mackender, a cherished member of our school community who sadly passed away in 2022.

Organised entirely by our students, the tournament celebrated Charlotte’s love for netball while bringing schools and clubs together to raise funds for the Singapore Cancer Society. Through teamwork, sport, and generosity, our students honoured Charlotte’s legacy in a powerful and meaningful way.

Below, our student organisers reflect on the day in their own words:

“The Charlotte Mackender Charity Netball Tournament is an annual event featuring schools and clubs. The event commemorates the life of Charlotte Mackender, a cherished student here at DCIS who had a passion for netball; she unfortunately passed away in 2022.

The 4th Charlotte Mackender netball tournament was held on the 28th of March, featuring the following teams: ANZA, Centaurs, Crossroads, MANA, SJII, UWC Dover, and our very own DCIS Wolves.

After a warm welcome and fantastic opening ceremony conducted by our Year 12 student Alicia, the teams were off to start their first match! From action-filled courts to the laid-back refreshment stand, many people were abuzz. The teams played relentlessly throughout the day, accumulating points to advance to the finals. In the end, after 2 very intense final matches, U14 Crossroads and U16 Centaurs emerged victorious.

To conclude the event, the closing ceremony was held, expressing gratitude to everyone for their donations to the Singapore Cancer Society. A representative from the Singapore Cancer Society was present at the closing ceremony, and, in addition to giving a speech, she helped present the trophy to the winning team and the MVP certificates.

Finally, the event ended with all the players gathering for a group photo. The event raised $3,848, which will be donated to the Singapore Cancer Society. We hope that everyone who attended, whether they were a player, spectator, coach, or member of staff, enjoyed the event!"
