Falling Forward We have finished the first ever Mock Exam week for both our year 11 and our first ever graduating class, year 13´s. As I was pondering what to write for my blog I was drawn to what was the core message I wanted to convey at the end of a very significant moment in the short life of BCB.

We have finished the first ever Mock Exam week for both our year 11 and our first ever graduating class, year 13´s. As I was pondering what to write for my blog I was drawn to what was the core message I wanted to convey at the end of a very significant moment in the short life of BCB.

In a few short months we will be celebrating the passing of our years 13s to pastures new and beyond BCB and I came across this inspirational graduation speech by Denzil Washington. In it he speaks about the notion of falling forward and the fact that throughout his career he has never planned to fail, he accepts that failure is a part of the journey of life and for some to be successful but he never planned for failure. This is a strong message when considering University choices when we encourage students to have options to fall back on but here we have a highly decorated American actor who points to the fact that his successes have come from multiple failures. In this speech Denzil Washington speaks about wanting to be able to fall and not wanting something to fall back on to and embrace the next challenge that comes his way.

At BCB our core value is growth mindset and the fact that in order to be a success you have to be ambitious so it kind of makes sense when you think about it, if you have a fall back option then does that affect your mindset of ultimately wanted to achieve something that is not easy for you and not a safe option?. One of the 10 IB Learning Profile Attributes is to be a risk taker so why not go for your dreams, dream big and if you fall then don't fall backwards but fall forward onto your next challenge and you never know that may be the one when you experience success!

So, what are you going to do with the talent you have??!!!

*At BCB and through the IB we do not endorse the act of prayer and are open minded in that some people may choose to believe in god.
