Hello Léman school community,

The DP team would like to take this opportunity to update you about what is happening in the CORE of the Diploma at Léman, so please find below an update on what the school community is doing for Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS), Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the Extended Essay (EE).

Year 13 students are presently meeting their final CAS challenges before completing their CAS IBDP requirement for January 2020. Over an 18-month period students have engaged in a range of activities supporting younger students in sport and craft clubs, as well as being part of the many school sports teams. For this club session it has been inspiring to see the Year 13 students create new and exciting experiences, and lead clubs such as crime scene investigation, CSI:Léman!

The Year 12 students, while just embarking on their CAS journey have shown excellent commitment to the programme with many assisting with coaching and sharing their technical and creative knowledge with other students. It is also inspiring to see so many of the Year 12 students engaging in activities outside of school with exercise challenges, such as the NAE global campus 5km running challenge, being a particular favorite. Particular praise should be given to Liao Yi Deng who organized a successful Art exhibition for her CAS project. It is these experiences that make the programme worthwhile for the students.

In TOK, Year 12 students have been introduced to a challenging course that asks them to consider ‘why do I think this?’. As a grade level they are coming to grasps with the ideas being delivered and are engaging well with the subject, with some very interesting discussions being enjoyed by the students. In Year 13, students have been working on the 6 prescribed titles that the IB gives out each year. They have reviewed these titles and chosen one to complete, with many students very close to completing the essay.

For the EE, Y12 students have been selecting subjects they wish to complete the extended essay in, with many already having already finalised research questions. We recommend a higher-level subject and a subject that the student may go on to study further at university or college. In Year 13 students have been submitting the final submissions to their EE supervisors and are eagerly awaiting their Viva Voce, their final interview, where they can discuss with their supervisor their findings and what they have learnt from the process.

Thank you for reading and if you have any questions about the Diploma core please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Regards,

The DP team
