Jack Young became the Elementary Principal at the Country Day School in January of 2017. Prior to becoming Principal he taught in both the Elementary School and Middle School at CDS beginning in 2011.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Assumption College in his hometown of Worcester, Massachusetts, a Graduate Certificate in Inclusive Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Kentucky.
Prior to joining the CDS family, Jack taught middle school social studies and English with the Hudson Public School and Shrewsbury Public School systems in Massachusetts. He also served as a teaching fellow for the WorldTeach Costa Rica program through the Harvard University Institute for International Development.
Jack works tirelessly to create a school culture and climate that provides a welcoming environment for all community members. His “Family Centered” philosophy is felt in everything that happens in the Elementary School. As a collaborative team, the Elementary School has implemented a strong social emotional learning program aimed at helping all students feel a part of the community, has led curriculum design in interdisciplinary units of study, and has restructured our standards-based reporting and assessment systems.
Jack and his wife Lily live close to the CDS campus with their three boys, Fernando, Andy and Camden. When not in school, they take full advantage of the beauty Costa Rica has to offer.
