Ever since I can remember, I wanted to be a teacher.  After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with multiple curricular emphasis from Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois, I started my teaching career at the International Christian School of Costa Rica.  During the summers, I would return to my native Wisconsin and teach summer school Language Arts to 6th, 7th & 8th graders. Four years later, I began teaching at Country Day School where I have been a 3rd-grade teacher, ESL support teacher, and currently the Head Librarian.  My philosophy of education is one that looks at the whole child, makes learning meaningful for the students, and prepares them for the future.

When I was five years old I dreamed of being an astronaut. I’m not, but while I can’t travel to the stars, I can certainly reach them through books. Words have been the shining light that has guided me through life. They guided me through the lows and highs of adolescence, the growing pains of college, and ushered me into my current job as Assistant Librarian for Middle and High School.

After studying Early Childhood Education at Universidad Latina de Costa Rica, I began my teaching career in 1995, in a small Montessori school in San Jose, Costa Rica. I instantly fell in love with Montessori Education, so I trained with the Pan-American Montessori Society in Costa Rica and got my Montessori Certificate in 1997. For the next 12 years, I taught using the Montessori method and later trained and guided teachers in implementing the Montessori Education in different private schools in Costa Rica.

In 1979, after finishing high school, I traveled to France for a year to study French at the Catholic Institute of Paris. When I returned to Costa Rica, I worked at the Costa Rica branch of the Banque Nationale de Paris for two years. After marrying in 1982, I had three children ( a girl and a pair of twins) in the span of 14 months. Apart from working as a stay-at-home mom, I volunteered at the Blue Valley School library twice a week and acted as the class representative for my children from preschool to high school.
