On the last day of term, a group of BSY staff, students and parents visited Yankin Children’s Hospital in central Yangon to distribute the 150 gifts which had been very generously donated by our BSY families. In addition to the presents left under the tree, over 700,000 mmk was also donated, with which our very own team of Santa’s helpers used to buy additional presents, enough to spread happiness to all 400 children in the hospital, giving them something to smile about this Christmas.
On arrival, Mrs Del Federico and the hospital General Manager greeted a group of assembled patients, their parents and hospital staff, and introduced BSY Prefect Alizia, who then made a monetary donation, with remaining funds raised, and indicated it was to be used to buy further games and toys to keep on the wards for all patients to share and use.
We met many sick children that day and the brief glimpse we had into the difficulties they were facing was a great reminder to all of us of the importance of compassion and generosity. It was a wonderful way to end the year and to start the festive period, and I know that for many of us it was a highlight of the term.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the BSY Community, all the parents and children who contributed gifts or made a donation, and a final thank you to the BSY team of helpers!
We really did achieve our goal to spread a smile at Christmas!
