Themed Learning is very important to the way we teach here at BISS Puxi. This kind of approach to the curriculum is where teachers choose contexts which provide an opportunity for explicit links to be made across the different subject areas, ensuring an in-depth understanding of the learning.
So on the first day of the Modern Explorers topic the teachers came to school dressed as explorers and the children were challenged to rotate around five stations each with different activities that tested their collaboration and analytical skills.
The stations they worked on were:
- Shelter building
- Negotiating the dangerous crocodile river
- Escapology and knots
- Explorer's food
- The pack-it challenge
The children all had a great time and were very excited to be playing out the role of explorers themselves. They are now ready and raring to learn all about Modern Day Explorers!
