Guests included some of our founding students who have been here from the start: Freddie Ziegenbein in Year 9, Jack McGeehan in Year 10, Yung Lo and Kirsty Tytherleigh in Year 11 and Chloe Tytherleigh in Year 13, as well as some of their parents. Josephine Chan and Lasse Aamodt who have also been at our school from the beginning were unfortunately not able to be there for the ceremony, but were not forgotten.
The afternoon began with all the guests learning about the history of our school by looking through our timeline that is currently on display in The Gallery, while James Lee on guitar, Victoria Sze on ‘cello and Emile He on the keyboard played beautifully. Please feel free to visit the timeline when you’re next in school and travel back in time to the beginning of our school’s story. It will be on display throughout next week, so please do drop in.
Our Year 3 and 4 dancers then entertained the guests with a specially choreographed dance routine by Ms Hughes, themed around the number 10 and led expertly by three Year 12 students. Guests then moved into Stage One where the Key Stage 2 choir sang for them before Mr Foyle made a speech marking the history of our school, where we’ve come from and where we are moving onto in the future.
Chloe Tytherleigh said a few heart felt words about her time at BISS Puxi, her fondest memories, the opportunities the school has given her over the years and the fact that this school really is her home.
Mr Foyle then cut the birthday cake with the help of the founding students and two children from Reception Leopards who had come and presented him with a special 10 year birthday card.
The guests then went on tours of the school and were treated to some excellent 10 themed lessons. For examples, children in Year 2 were learning how to say the number 10 in different languages and decorating their own number 10 biscuits and Year 1 were singing ‘10 in the bed’ and practising counting down from 10 in their Maths lesson!
This event was just one of the many things we are doing across the year to celebrate our anniversary and on Saturday 18 April, we will be having a party for the whole school community. We will send out more details closer to the time, but it will be a great opportunity for the whole community to come together to celebrate.
We would like to say a big thank you to all the students who helped today: the student council representatives, the musicians, dancers and singers and our founding students. All our guests were extremely impressed with our school and students and were very happy and honoured to help celebrate with us.
