Welcome back, I hope you all had a good break? The brief pause for breath was timely but we have moved straight back into top gear as we begin the final term of the year. Another busy week has featured the ACAMIS Football Tournament, a visit from young explorer Henry Evans and the start of the transition to our secondary school for our Year 6 students, to name just three exciting experiences that have featured at school this week. We have also had the pleasure of welcoming 22 new students and their families this week.
We have completed almost all of our staffing for the academic year 2014-15 and we have added the pen portraits of a number of the new staff to the staff section of the website. We really have been delighted by the quality of the fields of candidates that have responded to our adverts. As you will see we have an outstanding intake of new staff for August who I am confident will add great value and build on the work of the existing team.
We see the students in our care as academic athletes and we seek to support and guide them each day to improve their personal best performances inside and outside the classroom. We have the same approach to our own performance as a school. As a result we have also completed a number of upgrades to school systems and procedures in recent weeks. At the beginning of next week you will receive a copy of our revised bus behaviour policy. The document outlines the key roles and responsibilities of the staff, students and parents and is a good example of the partnership between home and school that helps ensure that these systems work smoothly.
Another upgrade to our systems is the introduction of some new locks on the main doors into the primary school which we have fitted to further enhance school security. The other important and impactful work that has been undertaken over the last couple of weeks is work to further improve the functionality of the website and in particular the school calendar. This is a very important source of information about the multitude of events that take place at BISS Puxi each week, before, during and after school, as well as at the weekends. If you are not familiar with this function I recommend that you find some time to acquaint yourself with it. It will assist you in your planning and in supporting your children in their undertakings at school as well as keeping you up to date with what is happening across the wider community.
Finally in response to requests from parents and in an effort to improve efficiency, we have introduced debit card payment for a variety of goods and services such as uniform, tuition fees, school trips and the British International School Community Activity Programme (BISCAP). Our caterers Sleto are also providing a similar payment facility. The details for all of these new payment options can be found on the page called Payment Methods.
We are looking forward to another busy and successful term and I look forward to welcoming you to various school events over the next few months.
