Best Job in the World!

30 May 2014

As I sat in the audience of the Summer Concert last night, I reflected on the fact that I have the best job in the world.

  • Year 5 space day 2014
  • Year 5 space day 2014

As our talented musicians performed I smiled, laughed, cried and generally was amazed by how skilled they are as singers and musicians. Clearly they have individually worked hard and put a lot of time and practice into becoming so accomplished, but also they have shown the ability to collaborate and share their skills to become part of great musical teams. The wide range of musical styles kept us highly engaged as an audience as we all “cooed” at the angelic sounds of the junior choir, clapped along to the Key Stage 3 Rock Band’s version of “Happy”, admiringly listened to the various instrumental groups,  and covered our ears during the thumbing beats of the rock bands. It was a joy to see so many young people following their passions and really enjoying sharing these with the school community.

But this feeling of pride and privilege of being surrounded by amazing young people has also struck me at various moments throughout the week as there has been so much going on.

Our young Nursery children showed how much they have grown up as they embarked on their trip to Changfeng Park and Aquarium. They came back exhausted but delighted and full of enthusiasm, inspired by the wonderful learning experiences they had on this visit with their classmates.

Our Year 5 students enthusiastically threw themselves into their Space Day which was the culmination of all their Themed Learning work this term. They delighted in sharing their projects with their peers and all the Year 5 parents and it was quite astounding to discover just how much they have learned about Space and how creatively they each chose to represent their learning journey in their projects.

And then on Thursday, we wished some of our talented sportspeople off on a big adventure to Beijing where our Rugby and Netball teams will compete in a prestigious competition involving school from around Asia. They felt confident and excited that together as a team they could perform well and be proud representatives of BISS Puxi.

Friday morning has also brought me to tears as Class 1U were adorable in their Tadpole Assembly, looking amazing in their insect costumes, sounding great singing their songs and again showing great confidence to perform in front of a big audience.

This is just a snapshot of all the exciting learning experiences children have been having this week. I cannot imagine that there is any other workplace where each day is so varied or can bring so much joy to so many people. I am lucky and privileged to have the best job in the world! But, it does occasionally get tiring being surrounded by so much energy so I am sure we will all enjoy a little rest on Monday! Have a lovely long weekend break.
