Developed by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), the AMC 8 is a challenging Mathematical competition in which students have to complete 25 questions in 40 minutes. It is designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills and provides an opportunity to apply the concepts taught at Key Stage 3 level to problems which not only range from easy to difficult, but also cover a wide range of applications. It’s a great opportunity for students to challenge themselves further, outside and beyond their normal class work.
Students need to be under 14 and a half years old on the day of the competition, Wednesday 19 November, and there is a commitment required to participate. They will need to complete some practice papers and attend two or three lunchtime sessions to gain extra experience and AMC examination technique skills.
Ideally your son or daughter should talk to their teacher directly to let them know they are interested in participating and teachers in set 1 classes will be reminding students during their lessons. However, if as a parent, you would also like to volunteer your son or daughter then please contact me directly via email, firstname.lastname@example.org .
The deadline for entries is Monday 15 September – I hope to have a lot of entries!
