Year 5 Take a Step Back In Time

22 October 2015

Year 5 had an exciting day out at the Shanghai Urban Planning Museum as we have been learning about settlements, cities and villages recently in class.

We made lots of links to our classroom learning whilst on the trip by applying our knowledge of maps and studying old Shanghai street maps from the 1900's.

We also compared old archive photographs of Shanghai to modern ones and discussed the differences in land use and transportation over time. We saw how the residential areas of Shanghai have changed significantly over the last 100 years.

The giant map of Shanghai was very impressive and encouraged us to think about the layout of our own village models. We are looking forward to using what we have learned in class to help us plan and complete our own model villages.

Many thanks to our parent helpers and the Year 5 teachers for making the trip a huge success.

Dean Clayden, Year 5 Leader
