After spending lots of time travelling on different types of transport, Paddington Bear wanted to get fit and healthy. The Reception Cubs quickly came up with a plan to help him. Throughout the week, they transformed into gym instructors and world class chiefs. They thought carefully about the best ways to keep their bodies healthy and experimented with different types of movement.
They then took part in a variety of different sporting activities, including obstacle courses, yoga, running games and aerobics. They also had lots of fun in our role play gym. This helped them to work on their coordination and motor skills.
They then focused on helping Paddington to answer the Big Question- How can we make our picnic healthy?
They decided that we needed to eat lots of fruits and vegetables and quickly started to make fruit smoothies in our juice bar. They squished, mushed and chopped up different types of fruit. It was also great to see and hear them using their addition and subtraction skills to sell the smoothies to each other.
At the end of the week, the Reception Cubs used a variety of tools and techniques to help them safely prepare a healthy salsa snack for their picnic. They washed, chopped and mixed together all of the different vegetables and herbs. We then went outside into the beautiful sunshine and enjoyed our group picnic. Some of the vocabulary used to describe the healthy salsa and chopped up vegetables sticks was- crunchy, spicy, delicious, sweet and tasty.
The Reception Cubs took great pride in achieving their goals and were delighted with their picnic. Thank you to all the parents who helped us create such a great day for the children.
