I have been teaching at BISS Puxi for the last four years. I worked with students to create the winning dance in the Global Classroom Dance Unites competition in 2013, as well as directing the Key Stage 2 productions of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘Treasure Island’. Before joining BISS Puxi I was a full-time dance teacher and subsequently Head of Performing Arts at a London secondary school. As well as teaching dance and drama there, I worked on successful projects with other organisations including the Royal Opera House and The Serpentine Gallery. Alongside my school teaching I am one of the founding members of 4Motion, a UK contemporary dance theatre company, which performs original pieces as well as running workshops in schools.
My life-long involvement in performing arts has been exciting, and I hope it has helped to enrich other people's lives as much as my own. My new venture, has been inspired by the wonderful talent of our students here at BISS, and my hope that their artistic potential will flourish. It will be for those who wish to immerse themselves in dance and drama, as I have. BISS already offers many great opportunities, so my aim is to supplement what they do, and add variety.
Initially, I will offer dance lessons for upper Key Stage 2 and lower Key Stage 3 through the BISCAP program, starting in September this year. The classes will involve learning, choreographing and performing original and creative dance pieces. It is guaranteed to be different and of course, fun!
I will be running free taster sessions next week. So if your son or daughter would like to be part of this exciting new venture, please encourage them to come along and try out the class on Wednesday 10 June for Years 4, 5 and 6, or Thursday 11 June for Years 7 and 8.
Year 4, 5 and 6 children received a note in their communication book which parents need to complete and hand in to their teacher or reception. Interested Year 7 and 8 students need to register with Mr Fudge.
Both sessions will take place in the primary school’s Rumble Room from 3:30pm – 4:30pm and I look forward to seeing lots of dancers there!
