The Juilliard Creative Classroom

14 October 2016

Throughout Primary we have enjoyed exploring some of the resources in our online Juilliard Creative Classroom.

  • Music

Throughout Primary we have enjoyed exploring some of the resources in our online Juilliard Creative Classroom:

In Reception this week we have been singing and continuing to learn to control our voices with increasing accuracy. We have been investigating a Ligeti piece and thinking about composing and performing with layers.

The Year 1’s have been busy with an introduction to keyboard and have listened to the opening motif to Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony in preparation for our World of the Orchestra focus.

Year 2  have enjoyed their first listen to an excerpt from Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring with a particular focus on composing and performing surprising, unexpected rhythmic accents.

Year 3’s have also been working with Stravinky’s music but with a focus on timbre.  We listened to different instruments playing a melodic fragment from the Rite of Spring and thought about how this effected the feeling in the music.

In Year 4 we have been very excited to begin our Cello exploration which will last for the remainder of this term.

The Year 5’s have been immersing themselves in the World of the orchestra which, for the moment, has a focus on timbre. We have been getting to know the sounds of various orchestral instruments and hope to recognise their sounds just like we would recognise the voice of an old friend.
