Juilliard School Keyboard Specialists Visit

On Monday, the auditorium was filling with beautiful music coming from not one, but two pianos! BISS Puxi gave a warm welcome to Michael Shinn and his wife Jessica Chow Shinn who both teach in the keyboard faculty at The Juilliard School in New York.

Throughout the day they gave interactive performances to students in KS2 and KS3, which had us stomping to a waltz, singing in a round as well as discussing ice cream flavours!

5 pianists in Year 7 were also lucky enough to have a masterclass from both visitors, receiving top tips on how to practise and improve their pieces.

Overall it was a very enjoyable day for all the students involved who went away inspired.

Soloist Recital Report

On Tuesday evening, the Music department hosted the final soloist recital for the year. This time we had almost 70 students taking part with over 3 hours of music performed.

The students, as ever, dazzled the audience with their talent on a variety of instruments, including the Trumpet, ‘Cello, Flute, Ukulele, Piano, Guitar and Violin. Amongst our singers, we even had our first rap artist performing in the recital.

There was also some collaboration between students as we had 3 Year 1 students singing together, and a ‘Cello and Piano duet from 2 boys in Year 5.

The evening was a huge success and every performer should be very proud of themselves as their Music teachers definitely are!
