Rainbow Days for Cubs!

13 October 2017

It has been a colourful few weeks in Pre-Nursery Cubs at BISS! We have been noticing lots of different colours in our environment and learning the colour names in English and in Chinese.

Colours are everywhere, but more excitingly we have been learning to create our own colours by mixing paints together. Using brushes, sponges or fingers we have explored what happens when we mix primary colours together. Sometimes we used our hands and turned our art play into a wonderfully sensory experience!

We have also used playdough, stories and songs to deepen our understanding of colours, and noticed colours present in our music, PE and outside learning also. We have mixed coloured water and coloured rice and talked about the colours of our clothing too. Learning about colours together has allowed children to build on their vocabulary and communication skills, enhanced our art work and encouraged communication and a sharing of ideas across the year group.

The children have enjoyed experiencing the success that comes with knowing which colour is which, and being able to correctly name a colour in English or Chinese. The children have shown us their keen interest in this topic by independently matching up coloured toys and objects with the colour signs and labels on the tables and taped to the floor.

As we move on from our colour focus, we know this is learning that will continue to inform the way our youngest learners explore and think about their environment.
