Music Melodies

23 February 2017

This term pupils in year 7 have been learning about the controversial ballet ‘The Rite Of Spring’.

  • Music Melodies

This week they have been discovering the ‘Glorification of the Chosen One’ an ancient ritual where a maiden is selected for sacrifice to the pagan gods. Pupils have been learning about the use of dissonance in this movement and what effect it creates. They also had an opportunity to put movement to music and act out the ritual in time to the soundtrack.

Year 8 students have been focusing on Chinese music. They have been investigating different kinds of texture in music as well as composing their very own Chinese inspired pieces based on the pentatonic scale.

Year 9 students have been learning about musicals. They have been preparing to sing a solo song from a musical they have chosen and add dramatization. A special congratulations must go out to the pupils of 9I, some of who have performed their solo songs confidently and professionally.
