Communication is Key: Watch this space!

22 September 2017

Every organization knows that, whatever its product or service, what it does, what it stands for, what it hopes to inspire, in fact everything it is trying to achieve, will be judged by how well it communicates. It is through our communication channels that we can demonstrate our values, as well as what we value.

  • parent portal

Nowadays there are so many different channels to consider. It is not just print media, but online media. Not just websites, but apps. Not just apps but online communities. Not just information, but interaction.

We want to improve the way we reach out to you. We want to send less paper home. A lot less paper. We want to make our online information available more comprehensively, so that you can find what you want. We want to make it easier to find, more intuitive. And we want to make it available much earlier, so that you can plan and organize your lives better. We want you to be able to pay for things easily on line, find fixtures, check timetables, menus, curriculum maps and complete forms (even without a VPN)! We want you to be able to link our calendar of events easily with your own, and we want you to be able to access all of this easily on your phone.

We are creating a parent portal to achieve these aims. It is locally controlled, rather than centrally controlled, which means that we can design its structure together. In fact, we have already been working with a group of parents from a number of the consultation groups with whom I meet, and they have given us valuable insights into how we can make it ‘right’ for parents. Now it is your turn to help us.

Immediately after the Golden Week half term break we will send you the address for the new parent portal. You will be able to register and browse the information that we have shared. Crucially however, we would like your feedback and suggestions about what we might change or adapt, so that we can tailor it to your needs. We want our communication portal to be truly collaboratively designed.

So, watch this space. And if you are browsing other information sites over the next few days, spend a moment or two noticing what it is that you like about them, or not, so that you can advise us as we develop ours.

Thank you in anticipation of all your help.
