Nursery Trip

16 March 2018

This week has been a very busy week for the children in the Nursery. After our focus on our Chinese New Year celebrations and learning about the Year of the Dog the children became interested in learning about dogs.

We opened a Vets Clinic in the Meerkats and Wolves unit. The children in the Panthers and Fox unit were one step ahead in this area as they had previously been learning about caring for pets. The teachers got together and decided with spring coming up we could extend all of this prior knowledge and spend the coming weeks learning about living things and healthy eating. This led to planning a very successful outing in our local community. We were able to implement three key elements of this learning by going on a short trip in our local community. We would like to thank “Love Pets” the pet shop in Fashion Mall for allowing us to visit and making available some very child friendly dogs that the children got to see and the braver children handled with loving care and attention. We also went to  ‘Jeffries Supermarket’ armed with shopping lists of fruit the children thought would be tasty in a fruit salad. The children had a great time pushing supermarket trolleys and baskets and finding the fruits on the lists. Some classes also got to find out what their teachers select in their weekly shop by helping them to find items on their lists. The children also selected a plant each that will be delivered to school and the children will plant and care for these in our raised gardens in the outdoor area. This will be a great opportunity to extend the children’s knowledge and understanding of planting, growing and life cycles. A very big thank you to all of the parents who were able to come along and support this trip. It was very LONG walk for our little ones who ate a lot of lunch afterwards and needed a rest when they returned to school but it was well worth the excitement!

Please do take a look in our weekly class news to get more details on how we are extending the children’s knowledge and understanding of the local community and living things. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
