European Day of Languages: Russian!

On Thursday 26 September, students in our secondary school celebrated the European Day of Languages with a special focus this year on Russian!

European Languages

The day began with a form time quiz for Years 7 to 10 to see how much students already knew about Russia and its language.

In their MFL lessons, students in Years 7 to 9 had the opportunity to learn how to introduce themselves in Russian and to recognise some letters from the Cyrillic alphabet.

Sasha Wilson taught her MFL class Russian today! Well done Sasha for preparing a great lesson! Dr Cattell, Head of Modern Foreign Languages
European Languages

In their Drama lessons, students in Years 8 studied an adapted version of The Government Inspector, by the nineteenth-century Russian playwright Nicolay Gogol, while Year 11 students worked on a scene study from the same play. In English, students in Years 7 and 9 learned some facts about some famous Russian authors and had the opportunity to analyse some Russian advertisements, and in Mathematics, students in Years 8 and 9 learned some ‘Peasant’ multiplication! Finally, in their humanities lessons, students in Year 9 learned about some aspects of Russia’s fascinating geography and history.

Drama was really interesting today as we had to act out a scene from a Russian play called the Government Inspector. Matan Kastoriano, Year 8
