Week Beginning 16 November 2015

Uniform sale: We will be having a Used Uniform Stall as part of the upcoming PTA Christmas Fair being held in school on Saturday 28 November. Please bring any clean, good quality, old uniforms to the Primary Reception over the next few weeks. Y12 will be running the stall with the support of parents and proceeds will go towards their fundraising.

LEARNING THEME

We will continue to work on the story ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’. The story tells of a family that go on a hunt through the woods. This book is repetitive and very easy for the children to join in with. At the end of the story they find someone hiding in the cave. Oh no it’s a bear! The bear chases them all the way home… phew they made it and are cosy in their warm bed! You can watch this story on youtube with your child at the link below.

The children will receive a special letter from the big brown bear. He didn’t mean to frighten the family, all he wanted to do was play. We will play a very special game of hide and seek in the outdoor area, looking for the bear and his friends using binoculars we will make ourself!

EXPRESSIVE ARTS AND DESIGN

The children will use instruments during the story, acting out the special parts.  Teacher will  ask the children why they choose particular instruments or noisemakers for different parts of the story e.g. ‘Why did you choose the rainmaker for the river?’ We will encourage the children to discuss and share their ideas with one another. They will also be encouraged to think about the type of sound needed for each setting – is it a long/short sound? Is it loud or quiet? We will challenge them to explore how to make their sounds longer or shorter and louder or quieter e.g. blowing over the top of the bottle for a longer time or tapping the triangle gently to make a quiet sound.

Swishy swashy Grass: brushing a paintbrush over a drum

Deep cold  River: bottle half filled with water

Thick oozy Mud: mud, paint or jelly in a bottle

A big dark Forest: scrapping and tapping claves

Swirly wirly Snowstorm: blowing over the top of an empty bottle

Deep dark Cave: gently tapping a triangle
