  • Bringing toys to school: Can we please remind parents that on Friday we have sharing time where children are invited to bring a toy from home into school to share with their friends. If children wish to bring toys on the other days of the week it would be very helpful if they can leave the toy with their parent before entering the classroom.  We appreciate your support with this.  

Learning Theme – Goldilocks and the Three Bears

It has been so lovely having all the cuddly teddy bears around. Thank you very much for sending the bears in. We will continue talking about bears with the story of Goldilocks who took a stroll through the forest. She came upon the three bears’ house and found three bowls of porridges, three chairs and three beds? Which bowl of porridge will be too hot? And which will be one just right?

Literacy

The story “Where’s my Teddy?” has proved to be very popular with the children and has prompted some children to make up their own teddy stories. We will be broadenting the children’s repertoire of bear stories by introducing the traditional tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children will be encouraged to join in and retell parts of the story themselves. We will take turns acting out parts of the story and also make up our own stories and play scenarios using the teddy bears that the children have brought in and the props that we are making.

Mathematics

We will be continuing our mathematical focus of size comparison and language of size into next week; the three bears featured in the story providing our stimulus. We will compare and order the three bears, the bowls of porridge, the chairs and the beds that Goldilocks encounters during her visit to the bears’ cottage.

We will reinforce these mathematical concepts using lots of different sizes teddy bears and challenge the children to sort them out into 2 hoops : big and small. As the children become more confident sorting in this way we will extend to include medium sized bears. Children may even have other ideas about ways that the bears could be sorted.

In addition we will sing the song “When Goldilocks went to the house of the bears..” and we will practice counting 3 bears, 3 bowls, 3 chairs, and 3 beds.  Can the children see 3 of anything else in the room?

We will also be making (and eating) our own porridge during the week, can everyone take turns and stir the porridge three times with the wooden spoon?

Rambamboelie is een lief klein hondje waar iedereen van houdt. Hij is niet alleen lief en klein maar hij blaft ook zo grappig. Daarom roepen de mensen elke dag: ‘Blaf Rambamboelie, blaf!’. En dan blafte Rambamboelie voor de mensen. Maar toen kwam die rare dag, niemand wist dat het een rare dag zou worden ....
