Week Beginning 12 October 2015

Security: Our new security system is still at the trial stage. Adults only should use the glass gates to enter and exit the school; children should use the metal gates to the side. If you are concerned that your child is young and you want to be with them then please accompany them through the metal gates. Thank you for your support.

MESSAGES

  • Lunches - Please be aware that SLETO take the numbers for lunches from the school register at 9.30am every day.  If you are taking your child out of school after 9.30am please inform SLETO in advance so that you are not charged on that day.
  • After School Contact System - New information about this has been added to the website to help at http://www.nordangliaeducation.com/our-schools/shanghai/puxi/after-school-contact-system.  Please ensure that your child’s class teacher is aware of any changes to regular going home arrangements early in the day by writing details in your child’s Communication Book.
  • Tanzania – Our annual Tanzania animal dress-up day will be on Friday 16 october.  Children will find out more in assembly next week.

OUR LEARNING THEME:  TRANSPORT

The new theme of transport has been met with such great interest and passion by the children this week that we decided to continue the theme next week. We will look at a selection of vehicles in more depth, asking the children to look closely at them. How many wheels does it have?  What sound does it make?  How does it move?  Can you move like a helicopter?  During our cooking focus this week, the children will spread soft cheese onto round biscuits to make some yummy wagon wheels.

Physical Development

We will be playing an exciting traffic light game with the children to promote careful listening and responding to instructions.  When a traffic light is shown and called out, the children will move accordingly: red( stop), amber ( slow), green( run around the area).  The children will be encouraged to think about the space around them and be aware of obstacles.

Key vocabulary:  red, amber, green, run, stop, listen

Mathematics

Maths is all around us. We will practise reciting numbers and counting with the children through a variety of carefully planned activities. How many cars are there in the car park? How many wheels does the vehicle have? Can you give me one/two carriages to extend the train?

Key vocabulary : how many, numbers 1-10, give me 1, give me 2

MANDARIN

We are going to learn and practise numbers 1-10. We will play the traffic light game in Mandarin reinforcing the colours and rules of the game.  We will also review the different  transportation that the children have shown such interest in .

Key vocabulary: numbers 1-10 (shu zi 1-10), traffic light (hong lv deng).

DUTCH

Jules en Marie  willen circus spelen.  Samen met papa zetten ze de tent op in de tuin.  Jules en zijn vrienden brengen een fantastische act in de piste.  We  toveren de Nederlandse klas om in een circustent.  In onze circuskoffer vinden we allerlei circusattributen.  Kan jij  raden aan welke artiest ze toebehoren?
