Week Beginning 15 February 2016

The Early Years Cubs entrance will be closed from 9am till 3.30pm. Throughout the day you can use the Main Primary school entrance instead. Attendance registers need to be completed by 8.50. If your child comes later than that please can you sign them in at Main Primary Reception. Many thanks.

  • The week of the 22 February will be our Maths Week here at BISS. Early Years will hold their own Maths Hat Parade on Friday 26 February. Please have a go at making a Maths hat at home!


We are looking forward to introducing our new learning theme of ‘Traditional Stories’.  We will begin next week by telling the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  In the story, a little girl called Goldilocks took a stroll through the forest. She came upon the Three Bears’ house and found three bowls of porridges, three chairs and three beds? Which bowl of porridge will be too hot? And which will be one just right?

The children will be encouraged to join in and retell parts of the story themselves. We will take turns acting out parts of the story and also make up our own stories and play scenarios using teddy bears  and any other props that we make during the week.

We will be focussing on the language of size using the three bears as our stimulus. We will compare and order the three bears, the bowls of porridge, the chairs and the beds that Goldilocks encounters during her visit to the bears’ cottage.

Using a variety of teddy bears the children will be challenged to sort them out into 2 hoops: big and small. Can the children then sort them into three different sizes- small, medium and large?  Children may even have other ideas about ways that the bears could be sorted.

In addition we will sing the song “When Goldilocks went to the house of the bears…” and we will practise counting 3 bears, 3 bowls, 3 chairs, and 3 beds.  Can the children see 3 of anything else in the room?

We will also be making (and eating) our own porridge during the week, can everyone take turns and stir the porridge three times with the wooden spoon?

De leesmarathon is weer van start gegaan. Alle kinderen van Primary hebben een formulier meegekregen. De  peuters mogen een boek dat aan bod is gekomen in de klas navertellen aan de hand van de plaatjes of samen met mama en papa een prentenboek lezen.   Per gelezen bladzijde vragen zij een kleine sponsorbijdrage. Het kind dat de meeste bladzijdes leest, wordt extra in het zonnetje gezet. Van het geld dat de kinderen bij elkaar lezen, organiseren we op vrijdag 26 februari een spetterend filmfestival. En de kinderen weten het: hoe meer er gelezen wordt, hoe groter we kunnen uitpakken bij het filmfestival... Veel succes allemaal!

Van al het koken van de voorbije  weken hebben we enorme honger gekregen. We zetten onze zintuigen aan het werk: we kijken,  voelen, ruiken en proeven de voedingswaren in onze boodschappenmand. We  ronden ons voedingsthema met een lekker gezond fruitdessert. Jammie!


We are going to learn a new story of Goldilocks and the three bears in mandarin after Chinese New Year.  We will do some exercises to show the different sizes about the beds, bowls , chairs  from the story.
