Dragon Boat Festival Holiday: School will be closed on Thursday 9 June.
- Please remember to inform us if your child will not be in school. If this is for any illness, it is very important that you inform your class teacher so that we can ensure illnesses do not spread.
- We are running short of spare clothes, used when a child needs a change of clothes. Can you please check at home for any of our clothes that have been sent home with your child? Also, if you have any spare clothes that your child no longer wears please send them in so that we can add them to our collection of spare clothes. Many thanks.
- BISCAP/BISS Lions Swimming/ECAs – Term 3 last week will be 13 June.
- Thank you: All the teachers say a huge “thank you” to all of you for our brunch invitation. We look forward to enjoying it this Sunday.
LEARNING THEME: Pirates and the Sea
The children loved looking at the sea and the sea creatures last week. This week we will continue with a fishy theme but concentrate on “Pirates”. We will talk about what a pirate is and what they do. Are they good or are they bad? We will continue to create a range of under the sea art pieces using a range of suitable materials, i.e. shells, paint, play dough and construction bits. We will encourage the children to participate in pirate related activities, such as walking the plank and going on a treasure hunt to help us explore our environment. I wonder what we will find!! We will use a pirate related song as part of our learning. The song can be found by following the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qAngsMJD3I
Key Vocabulary: sea, ocean, water, boat, pirate, clothes, sail, plank, parrot, treasure
We will continue to focus on sea related stories and use these stories to develop our maths skills. The pirate and the sea theme will give the children a fantastic opportunity to use numbers and counting skills. We can count the fish, the parrots, and the number of steps on the map and so on. We will be developing the children’s ability to compare the quantity in groups of objects using suitable language “Are there more red fish or more blue fish?’’ We will also show the children how they can use mark making to represent the number of objects we are counting e.g. drawing three fish.
Key vocabulary: treasure, numbers, compare, less than, more than, equal, the same
