Our learning theme:  Me and My Family

We  will extend our learning theme of “All about Me” but rather than thinking about just ourselves, we will be looking at our whole family. Who is in your family? How are our families the same/different?

The children are creating bonds with their teachers and exploring friendships with their new peers. As a main focus point this week, we will be playing lots of games as a whole group, remembering each other’s names and talking about ourselves.

Key vocabulary: friend, teacher, same , different

Understanding  the World

As children look at the photos of their families we will talk about the different people they can see, and reinforce their understanding of belonging to a family. Who is in your family? How many brothers do you have? Do you have a sister?

Key vocabulary: family, mummy, daddy, brother, sister, baby

Children will be invited to draw pictures of themselves and their family members. Lots of opportunities will be provided throughout the unit for the children to engage in mark making. A range of media and materials will be available for the children to explore.

Key vocabulary: crayon, marker, brush, paint, mark
