Week Beginning 7 December 2015

Christmas Lunch: Our school Christmas lunch will be on Wednesday 9 December.


  • The Reception Christmas Play ‘Snowman at Sunset’ will be on the morning of 8th December in Stage One.  You will be able to take your seats in Stage 1 from  9:00. The show starts at  9:30am so do get here in plenty of time to get a good seat! We do hope you will be able to attend.
  • The Reception Cubs Christmas Party will be on Tuesday 8th Dec in the afternoon. Please send your child to school wearing their party clothes.


As we prepare to perform our Christmas production we will be thinking about the other things we can do to help to celebrate this special time of year.


We will be making and writing Christmas cards for our families and friends.

After making our delicious ginger cookies and observing the various changes that occur in the mixing and cooking process, the cubs will have a special treat on the last day of term- popcorn! We will watch as the corn kernels pop and change into yummy popcorn. We will make special cone holders for our popcorn and we will enjoy a special Friday afternoon treat before our Christmas holidays.

We are really excited to perform our Christmas Concert to a live audience of our families and friends. We look forward to saying our lines clearly and singing all the songs beautifully! Towards the middle of the week, having worked so well together to make our Cubs environment so festive looking, we will now focus on using our design skills to make some beautiful decorations  that we can take home.

Pufferfish- We will learn new sound ur (burp ) and revise all the Phase 3 sounds learned this term.

Sharks- This week the Shark group will review the digraphs; sh, ch, th and ng.  They will practise blending for reading and segmentation for spelling.  In addition they will also learn to read the tricky words- big, put, but and see. 

Octopus – The Octopus group will be reviewing and applying all the sounds they have learned so far this term.

Jellyfish – Jelly fish will review the sounds learnt so far and have a focus week on reading and spelling words using these letters. We will practise blending sounds together to read words and segment sounds to spell words. We will also work hard to ensure we can write ALL our letters correctly.

Starfish- We will add the final sounds from phase 2 this week; l, ll, ss and use them to read and write simple phonic words. We will also continue to practise the tricky words;  the, to , go, into.


The countdown is on to our Christmas holidays and the Reception cubs will practise counting up to 20 and beyond, counting backwards, counting objects  and we will also continue to improve our number recognition. We will sing number rhymes and play counting games on the whiteboard together.

Counts objects to 10, and beginning to count beyond 10.

Counts an irregular arrangement of up to ten objects.


This week the children will have a fun week, joining in with activities, songs and stories  that link with Christmas . We are trying to encourage children using mandarin to describe Christmas.

Papa en Jules gaan een kerstboom kopen in de boomkwekerij.  Wanneer ze thuis komen kan de boom niet door de deur.  Hij is te groot!  Wat nu?

We kleden ons lekker warm aan voor het winterseizoen en zoeken kerstversiering voor de boom met een letter `s` vooraan.   In de kerstboom zoeken we naar rijmwoorden.  Prettige kerstdagen!
