Week Beginning 11 May 2015

Please label all school uniform, snack boxes and water bottle to avoid items getting lost in school. Every child needs to have a water bottle to bring in each day. No glass containers please.


  • In the summer term, please ensure children wear sun hats on hot days to protect them when playing outside.
  • Thank you to all parents who support the children making Charlie and the Chocolate Factory shoe box dioramas over the holidays. If anyone wants to make a last minute entry you can bring them in on Monday 11 May to be displayed along the Year 3 corridor!


This week we will be beginning to look at the features of a play script. The children will start by comparing narrative texts and play scripts of the same story and identifying the differences and similarities. They will then experience acting out scenes using the stage directions and cues, building up to them creating their own short play script.


In Maths the children will be measuring, comparing, adding and subtracting volume or capacity in litres and millilitres.

Themed Learning


The children will be focusing on history. They will be researching the history of chocolate using their ICT skill and answering the big question: “Who was Hernan Cortes?”


The children will think about the lives of people living in other places and times, and people with different values and customs.


Literacy – playscript, cue, stage directions, title, character name, brackets, colon, expression, intonation

Maths– measure, capacity, volume, millimetre, litre, centilitre, more than, less than, equivalent to, scale

Themed Learning – Hernan Cortes, Aztecs, Myans, Andes Mountains


Het nieuwe thema ‘Freek in het wild’ is gestart. De leerlingen van Year 5 en 6 verdiepen zich in het schrijven van een biografie gericht op iemands specialiteit (werk, opleiding, talent). De leerlingen van Year 3 en 4 leren een gedetailleerde beschrijving te geven van een dier.

Bij spelling worden in Year 3 en 4 de volgende categorieën geoefend: -ig, -lijk, eind –d en de prefixen be-, ge-, ver-. verkleinwoorden met –je, -tje, -etje en meervouden op –eren.

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Samsom

We will continue our work on greetings and basic conversations, like introductions.

This week we have been continuing with our food topic, writing our own dialogues and performing them. Next week we will be continuing with the topic focussing on describing different foods. 

Homework: read the passage about food and answer the questions.

Year 3 / 4 French – Mrs Rae

Next week we shall be finishing our unit on weather and moving on to our new unit on food. We will learn the names of different foods, how to order them in cafes/ restaurants and to ask how much something costs.
Homework: complete the sheet on daily weather and write a sentence about each days weather.
