Week Beginning 9 May 2016

In the summer term, please ensure children wear sun hats on hot days to protect them when playing outside.

  • Please label all school uniform, snack boxes and water bottle to avoid items getting lost in school. Every child needs to have a water bottle to bring in each day. No glass containers please.
  • Year 3 will be basing our work around “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory “by Roald Dahl, It would be fantastic if you could support the children out of school by helping them to read the book and/or watch the film to get them all ready for learning in class!

This week we will continue with our unit on poetry. The children will be ending their work on shape poetry linked to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and then move on to Haiku’s. "Haiku" is a traditional form of Japanese poetry. Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and last lines of a Haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme.

In Maths, the children will be working practically on  measuring, comparing, and adding and subtracting volume/capacity (l/ml). We will cover how many millilitres in a litre as well as how to use a decimal point.

The children this week will be starting a unit on Variables & Investigations. The children will look at the word variable as a starting point and consider the question: What is a variable? They will then look at the different types of variables you can have in science experiments. They will then conduct a practical investigation where different groups are charged with changing one of four variables when making cookies. They will observe and compare how changing these variables will impact on the outcome of the experiment.

Linked to our Themed Learning, the children will be thinking about team work and collaboration.

Literacy – alliteration, clue, suffix, shape, Haiku, syllable, rhyme

Maths– measure, compare, estimate, litre, mililitre, accurate

Themed Learning- variable, experiment, investigate, test, observe, predict, conclude, justify

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Caldwell

This week we will be continuing to review prepositions and follow basic instructions to complete simple dance routines.  We will also be revising the ever-changing weather!

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Sutton
Next week we will continue with our clothes topic-looking at adjective agreement and descriptions.
Homework this week is to consolidate the learning so far by competing in the quiz.
