Week Beginning 15 June 2015

Thank you to those that came to the year 4 showcase day. The children felt extremely proud to present their hard work from over the last few weeks.

This week the children will become a playwright. They will use their advernture stories as stimulus or adapt their current stories into a play script. They will develop understanding of character, stage directions and narration. Once their masterpieces are complete they will attempt to act out their plays.

The children will continue to work on keeping Bruce the guard dog happy. Now they have worked out what food to buy they will be working on creating recipes for him, designing a timetable to ensure he is exercised regularly and plotting his walks in the park, using a coordinate grid and directional vocabulary. They will use skills connected to understanding ratio and proportion and work with speed and accuracy. This is an excellent opportunity for all children to apply the Year 4 learning objectives in a meaningful context and for teachers to help with reinforcement of calculating skills.

Themed Learning

This week the children will be going on their own adventure!  They will be asked to pack their bag for the day, thinking about what they might need for a 1 day adventure. They will get to use many survivial skills such as tracking, compass skills and mapping.

The artistic part of themed learning, but consist of the children creating their all weather jackets they designed for their adventure. They choose the fabric think most appropriate and will use basic sewing skills to construct their garment.

The children will be learning how to make positive choices. They will be working in small groups to complete a number of challenges that test their ability to work effectively in a team.
