Children will be asked to create a diaoramaof their imagainary planet for homework.

MATHS

For our first week back we will be exploring the difference between Weight and Mass.  We will appreciate the reasons why mass and weight are the same on Earth and then how they differ when we experience less gravity.  This topic links well with out Themed Learning Space topic.  We will also develop our estimation skills and review our understanding of metric and imperial measures.

THEMED LEARNING

‘Space’

This term the children will become space explorers. During this topic, children will learn about different planets and how galaxies are formed. In Humanties we will look at the history of the space race and at propaganda. Were the technologies on either side of the Iron Curtain very different? In Science we will investigate how to make rockets fly and find out what materials are needed to make a spacesuit. We will also learn about the relationship between the Sun and Earth and will explore how the solar system works. The children will learn that the planets orbit the Sun and the Moon orbits the Earth. We will make Sun dials and use them to measure time. The children will also take part in some astronaut training whilst dscussing the challenges and difficulties associated with space travel.
