Week Beginning 11 May 2015

SAS Puxi Soccer Fun Day 15 May at SAS Puxi. It is always lovely to have parents come along to support. Matches will be played between 10:00 and 12:50.


  • Year 6 Graduation Ceremony - Thursday 18 June. This is an event where students are individually recognised for their contributions to life at BISS Puxi Primary School and is an opportunity for students to showcase talents


We will continue our revision of Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar and refine their reading comprehension skills. Students will also have the opportunity to write an article titled “Save Our Screens” where they will debate against a proposed campaign to limit young people’s availability to electronic devices.


We begin the week by completing our iMovie clips of our solutions to the intriguing ‘Popcorn Picker’ problem! Following this, students will continue our revision by focussing on calculating with decimals using all four operations, and revisiting solving problems involving money.

Themed Learning

‘Healthy Living’

The topic of the term will be ‘Healthy Living’. This will include nutrition, cardiovascular health, hygiene and rest to develop a healthy lifestyle.

This week in Themed Learning we will be consider the effects of sugar consumption and investigate the sugar content of carbonated drinks by conducting a scientific investigation. Students will also have an opportunity to create a healthy dish in the kitchens.


We will discuss how manufacturers disguise the sugar content of food and the long term health implications of sugar consumption.


Literacy –  double negatives, subject-verb agreement, debate, campaign, abstract nouns

Maths –  decimal, decimal point, tenths, hundredths, thousandths, estimation, rounding

Het nieuwe thema ‘Freek in het wild’ is gestart. De leerlingen van Year 5 en 6 verdiepen zich in het schrijven van een biografie gericht op iemands specialiteit (werk, opleiding, talent). De leerlingen van Year 3 en 4 leren een gedetailleerde beschrijving te geven van een dier.

Bij spelling worden in Year 3 en 4 de volgende categorieën geoefend: -ig, -lijk, eind –d en de prefixen be-, ge-, ver-. verkleinwoorden met –je, -tje, -etje en meervouden op –eren.

This week we have been continuing our food topic focussing on foods we like/dislike and describing different foods. We will be finishing this topic this week. Next week we will begin a project which pupils will choose from a variety of different topics.
Homework this week is to complete the homework sheet about food.
