MESSAGES

  • Now the weather is getting warmer, please could you encourage your child to bring in a hat and also a water bottle so that they remain well hydrated during the day.

LITERACY  

In Literacy this week we will be continuing to look at the book ‘Millions’ to coincide with the launch of our new topic ‘If I Ruled the World’. We will be using the exciting events of chapters seven and eight to look at how Damien views the world around him. We will build to writing a diary entry about his experiences so far. To coincide with our writing we will also be revising the use of the active and passive voice in grammar.

MATHS 

In Maths this week we will be looking at measure. This will involve revising all the standard units of measure including kilograms, kilometers, grams and meters. We will also look at calculating area, perimeter and volume. Key to our understanding this week will be converting units of measure using our ability to multiple and divide by 10, 100 and 1000.

THEMED LEARNING

This week is the fourth week of our exciting new topic ‘If I Ruled the World’. We will be using the wonderful resource ‘Three Minutes to Change the World’ in which various successful business people make pitches as to how they would make the world a better place. The children will then use these as inspiration for their own three minute pitches. We will also be continuing with our art unit of work on collage.

De Razende Reporters van SDS werken aan hun laatste twee artikelen voor het Dagblad van SDS. Over een week moet het dagblad af zijn, dus de redactie zet alle zeilen bij om de deadline te halen. Sommige ouders zullen verrast worden door een onaangekondigd interview. Wij hopen dat dit niet teveel overlast oplevert en dat de reporters zich niet te opdringerig gedragen.

Year 3 en 4 krijgen een gezamenlijke krant en Year 5 en 6 ook.

Spelling en woordbeeld

We herhalen met spelling in elke groep de klankengroepen (letterdief, letterzetter, 2-tekenklanken en poortwachter). Het automatiseren van deze spellingmoeilijkheden is voor veel kinderen een enorme klus. We steken er daarom extra tijd in.

Bi(e)bbezoek en Estafette

Denk aan het meenemen van de bi(e)bboeken op maandag (Year 3, 5 en 6) en dinsdag (Year 4). Estafette doen we op maandag (Year 3, 5 en 6) en donderdag (Year 4).

Year 5/ 6 French – Miss Caldwell
Next week we will be continuing to practise using prepositions to explain where things are.  We will also be using simple directions to follow and create our own dance routines!

Homework this week is to create a dance routine to share with the class.  We must be able to direct them with their steps (left, right, forward, backwards, jump, etc).

Year 6 French - Mme McConnon / Miss Chareyron
Next week, we will be continuing to work on using the future tense and describing future holidays.
Homework this weekend:  a) learn the future tense words in the box (using je,tu, il and elle)

b) Write a postcard about where you are going to go on your next holidays.
Students should all complete their homework from last week, if not done and all students should bring it to the lesson on Thursday as a print out or to airdrop to me.

Year 6  Spanish -  Ms Watson
We have been studying sports and what we do in our free time. As part of this unit we will study Spanish dances such as flamenco, salsa and merengue to understand more about the Spanish culture. We will learn some basic dance steps, familiarise ourselves with the music and look into the history of where it comes from.
For homework children will continue to learn how to ask others what they do in their free time and to practise responding with activities and sports they like and why. They should also be able to explain the frequency and on what days they do their sports.
