Week Beginning 23 May 2016

Next year: As the end of year is approaching we are already beginning planning for the new classes next year. However, this is a long and complicated process. Please be aware that information about new classes and teachers will not be available for several weeks, but we do aim to be able to share this with you before the end of term. We aim to provide stability in moving complete classes to the next year group whenever possible. When classes have to be altered we use our detailed knowledge of the children and consider carefully friendships, gender and nationality. As decisions are based on the number of children in each year group, please help us by confirming your intentions for next year to , if you have not already done so. Thank you for your patience and support.


  • Now the weather is getting warmer, please could you encourage your child to bring in a hat and also a water bottle so that they remain well hydrated during the day.


In Literacy this week we will be continuing to look at the book ‘Millions’ to coincide with the launch of our new topic ‘If I Ruled the World’. We will be looking at how the narrative progresses as the author moves into the main events of the story. We shall investigate the way characters and settings are developed first before moving into the narrative. We will also be revising a range of grammar topics covered this year.


In Maths this week we will be revising a range of topics that we have covered over the year. This will involve the children self-assessing to consider what areas of Maths they feel they would like extra help with and the teachers re-visiting key areas of understanding.  We will finish by completing an investigation using algebra to see how the children apply their knowledge in a more abstract question.


This week is the fourth week of our exciting new topic ‘If I Ruled the World’. We will be using the wonderful resource ‘Three Minutes to Change the World’ in which various successful business people make pitches as to how they would make the world a better place. The children will then use these as inspiration for their own three minute pitches. We will also be continuing with our art unit of work on collage.

De redactie is uitgeput, maar voldaan na het afronden van de artikelen voor het SDS Nieuwsblad en het opnemen van het SDS Nieuws. De resultaten volgen spoedig (de twee oudste redactieleden zetten de krant in elkaar en monteren het nieuws).


Stel je voor... je moeder zit in de gevangenis, maar je weet zeker dat ze onschuldig is. De gevangenis  staat op een streng bewaakt eilandje in de Waddenzee. En aan je vader heb je niks, want die zit van de stress de hele dag te gamen. Wat doe je dan?

Dan bedenk je een onwaarschijnlijk reddingsplan!

Het laatste thema gaat over superhelden. Niet alleen die van de tv, met capes en superkrachten, maar juist de helden onder ons. Wat maakt jou een held? Ken je een held in de familie? Hoe kun je een held worden?

Bi(e)bbezoek en Estafette

Denk aan het meenemen van de bi(e)bboeken op maandag (Year 3, 5 en 6) en dinsdag (Year 4). Estafette doen we op maandag (Year 3, 5 en 6) en donderdag (Year 4).


Year 5/ 6 French – Miss Caldwell
This week, we will be reviewing our ‘Home’ Topic.  We will be revising how to ask where someone lives and how to answer correctly, adding in more details such as ‘pres de..’, etc.  We will also be describing our homes, re-capping the names of rooms and learning additional details such as items that you may find in those rooms.

Homework this week will be to research a celebrity and find out what their hobbies and interests are.  The children will then present this back to the class………in French, of course!

Next week, we will be continuing to work on future holidays.

Homework this weekend:  create a quiz on Quizlet or Kahoot using the vocabulary they have learned linked to holidays and the future tense.

Year 6  Spanish -  Ms Watson

The year 6 students will continue their cultural study of popular Spanish dances and will be focusing on the countries of origin, history and festivals that they are associated with.

For homework students have been asked to prepare a Picollage of a type of dance found in Spanish speaking nations and research it in order to present to the class.
